The Philippine Idol Finals

Last night was the Philippine Idol Final Performance Night. And I bet at least in one performance there, if you would've watched, you'll have goosebumps.
Well, tonight we would know who the Filipinos voted as the 1st Philippine Idol which is set to compete for Asian Idol next year.
The Finale night was divided into three categories... The order of performance is: Gian, Jan, Mau.

Performer's Choice
Gian. Impossible Dream. The song was great, arrangements was irresistable. The strong point is the end part. I love it. Good starting song. He proved he can jive with the other contestants. Gian did it from impossible to possible. The first note up to the last are fine. Excellent performance it is.
Jan. Say That You Love Me. I never liked Jan, but with his improvement and the way he did this song, he was at his par. He nailed it. Although his voice is not my type. I think the performance was great. Although the judges seemed to say it was him who won this round, I oppose. He did well, but he's not the best.
Mau. The song choice was not really the best she could come up with. She should have done better if she picked some more challenging song, with climax. She had rough middles and the tones were falling off key. But her 'kulots' and styles put her through. I think she did well. Not just what I expected her to be.

My Ranking:
1. Gian (9.5)
2. Jan (9.4)
3. Mau (9.2)

Judges Ranking:
1. Jan
2. Gian
3. Mau

Judges' Choice
Gian. Volare. The song just captivated me. It was his best song as far in the night. He nailed it. He was in his element. He did a cool job doing what people wants. He's enthusiasm and passion did entice the audience. It was a cool and breezy, effortless performance.
Jan. Sway. The song was too easy for him. Needed sexiness and he got some. So, that's why it somehow worked. He just did not connect with audience that well. For me, Gian did better. He did good.
Mau. Balut. The funny thing is the choice for her is not really meant for a contyest. Maybe as same as the males but she did it pretty well. She just seemed weak. She's not up for competition. The guys did really well and she did just good, just enough. I liked the song, I liked the performance.

My Ranking
1. Gian (9.3)
2. Mau (9.2)
3. Jan (9.0)

Judges Ranking
1. Gian
2. Jan
3. Mau

Record Producers' Choice

Gian. Flying Without Wings.
The arrangement of the song was so not-Westlife. Its classy, world-class. Gian jived in through the song. It was his best song of the night. It feels like he'll win when he sang it. Not enough goosebumps but excellent excellent performace. The best so far. I never expected that he'll do this song, but in the way he did, he absoultely nailed it. Terrific tones and timings on the last lines of chorus. The ending was passionate. Two thumbs up for Gian.

Jan. Evergreen. When I learned it was this song, I asked myself: "Is the Record Producer a Westlife fan?" Nothing new with the performance. For me, he had the voice for the song. Still, the connection killed him. Plus, for me he had some difficulties in a lot of parts of the songs. The high tones were barely met. Jan did outstanding showing a good fight for the night. The overshadowing of the judges kills me. They made it seem like Jan's winning.

*drum rolls*

Mau. On My Own. I'll only start with: "I love Mau!". The song was the best suited for her. The producer' s choice fits her perfectly. Only Mau made my hair rise. She is exemplary. Truly world-class. You think you know who wins, you think Gian did the best, but it's not the end until the fat lady sings. Mau did nail it, she's just perfect, enough to cover her past two almost falling performances. An underdog, a star. Mau is my Philippine Idol. It's too good, that even Gian fans and other Jan fans had a standing ovation for that performance. The judges comment were cut for a segment because of the audience's wild reaction and Mau crying. She was so overwhelmed by the people's reactions. She did really really well. Excellent. Just right. Just making it to Asian Idol.

My Ranking:
1. Mau (10.0)
2. Gian (9.5)
3. Jan (9.2)

Judges Ranking
1. Mau
2. Gian
3. Jan

Mau (28.4)
Gian (28.3)
Jan (27.6)

For me the judges acted that way for the people to feel that Mau is an underdog. Filipinos want underdog winners. If Mau wins, the judges are effective in doing the reverse psychology thing at the same time pushing Mau to be challenged and perform the best she can do. She rocked. Mau is my winner. Gian for me is 2nd; Jan, a lousy third placer.

Knowing Filipinos:
1. Mau, 2. Jan, 3. Gian
